He started off with Edmonton,and became the greatest player in the world when with that team.Peter Pocklington,the one time owner of the Oilers,traded him when Wayne was in his prime.Peter was hated by the fans and the city of Edmonton and Wayne became the villain when he left to move to LA to play there.He was referred as a traitor to the city and the team. For years there was resentment of Wayne and his decision to move,one of the reasons being his girlfriend(now wife).He played for other teams but his popularity waned and is now part owner of the Phoenix Coyotes It would be likened to Michael Jordan leaving Chicago,or some other star that leaves a city that made them famous.
