  • meee! i dont like it, i mean i try, but it doesnt work. i have tried so many different kinds, thinking maybe i will find something and yet, i still dont find anything i like!
  • Wholeheartedly agreed. The only alcohol that I've ever had that I enjoyed was Smirnoff Green Apple stuff but, apparently, that's only for "pansies". Beer, wine and all the rest taste like garbage to me. I really can't see what the big deal is concerning alcohol.
  • I don't like to drink, but if I do..then its simply for just getting faded and to keep the party going
  • I'm not a big drinker either.
  • I haven't had a drink in maybe 20 years. I can't say I really like the taste of most alcohol but we make some great beers here in New Zealand.
  • There are a few types of "drinkers" and "non-drinkers" (quotes used to imply that the drink is alcohol based). I don't drink alcohol for health reasons. And I understand the initial social discomfort. Here's what you do (may or may not be true, but it will really shut people down at the party and make you look really intelligent), say "no thanks, I'm the designated driver". They will usually say something like "that is really cool". You now have your opening to say that you are usually the designated driver because you don't drink, then you have an opening to say why you are the designated driver. "I don't like the taste, and it's kind of fun making sure my friends get home safely". Trust me, no one will question you, and will only gain respect for you. I have been a vegetarian for YEARS and felt I had to defend myself. When I stopped drinking, I finally figured out how to turn the "challenge" back at them. No worries mate. Be yourself, and learn to turn a challenge back on someone.
  • i hate it i quit drinking completely. it's not just the taste, after just a couple sips my face gets all red & my stomach starts 2 bother me & i get tired. drinking just isn't 4 some people. u shouldn't be "expected" 2 drink anywhere, if it happens again just use the excuse that you're driving.
  • Well, I don't drink as much as I used to...not that I was really a very heavy drinker in the first place. I just find that as I get older, I drink a lot less. I can take it or leave it. When we're in a social situation, party, family gathering, etc., I'll have a few...but usually just beer. My partner has been trying to quit (has managed to cut down a lot), and has, in the past, been surprised that I don't "need" to drink like she used to.
  • I detest alcohol, and there is no place where you are expected to drink. I have tasted and rejected alcohol. Nonetheless, I have spend quite a bit of time in pubs, bars, and clubs. Never have I felt I had to drink anything. This sound more like an issue with self-esteem, if you feel pressured internally to do so.
  • I don't. I'm 25, and the only time I ever had alcohol pass my lips was when I accidentally took a sip off a glass that I thought had some softdrink in it.
  • If I drink four times in a year, that's a lot for me. I don't like the taste of most alcohol and frankly I REALLY dislike being around drunk people. I used to complain that I'd never be a normal adult because I think coffee is disgusting and the smell of wine makes me sick. Even the one time I took an actually-dunked-in-the-wine Communion wafer it made me feel ill. Sucks for me, though, I can't use the 'designated driver' thing because I have yet to get a license. {sigh} I just tell people who INSIST on knowing why I'm not drinking (which is kinda rude when you think about it) that I'm taking medication that reacts badly with alcohol.
  • Yep I hear ya' I hate alcohol and can't see how people can drink that s#!t.....
  • edgar b i stopped drinking 2 weeks ago and i dont miss it at all. i think i drank beer because all my mates do, i love pepsi and save £50 aweek!
  • In general, alcohol really doesn't taste too good, and everyone knows it. That's why people add all kinds of syrups, citrus and sodas to alcohol to try to hide the taste. People also get used to it. It's ok not to like alcohol and it's ok to decide not to drink it.
  • Yes, and I've never been drunk.
  • I prefer not gettin drunk
  • Alcohol is nasty anyway. I prefer drinking coke. =]
  • At those event where you are expected to drink, walk around with club soda and a lime, no one will be the wiser to whats actually in your glass.
  • I love to get hammered. But it's cool if you don't. We all live our own way, right? Speaking of drinking, I'ma get fucked up tomorrow. Tomorrow's Friday!!!
  • It was only in the past four years that I developed enough of a taste for alcohol that I could drink socially. So I'll basically sip on the same beer for a quite a while. Even so, I never really ever crave the taste. Also, I'm a cheapskate, and don't see much need in paying for beer that I can buy at the store for at least a third of the price at the bar.
  • I used to drink all the time but never really liked it. All alcohol taste bad to me and I had many really expensive liquor and wine. After a while, I just stopped drinking and none of my friends care. I could never get over the taste of alcohol. I did find that in college, there was some peer pressure to drink but with age and maturity as well as good friends, I found out that no one cares and it doesn't matter if I drank of not. But to fit in some social situations where drinking is the norm, I might hold a glass of something non-alcoholic in my hand since everyone is drinking/holding a drink in their hands but it won't be alcohol. Plus, way after I graduated from college, I don't attend many parties where everyone is drinking and/or getting drunk. Most of the time I am the designated driver and at least I know all my friends will be getting home safe that night. Additionally, I am allergic to some ingredients in alcohol and just a couple of sips will make me very sleepy, tired, and my face a deep red.
  • I dislike the entire concept of social lubrication, and how first impressions and judgement must always be passed while all are sauced. :/ All the pretentious elegance and diplomacy which paints the blatant idiocy of such, in most cases, is also quite laughable. I don't dislike the taste, but I do find that the best time I have with alcohol is with a small group of friends somewhere quiet, or on my own while watching movies. Well I don't like all alcohol, most hard stuff, besides Vodka and some red wines, I can do without. :/ I prefer beer, Belgian beers most particularly.
  • I agree... I can't stand MOST alcohol, at least straight. Beer is fine... Wine coolers are ok.... Wine, itself, it depends on the type. My favorite drinks are mixed, and usually sweet - Kahlua, Creme de Menthe, Triple Sec, Amaretto, Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, etc. Stingers were my favorite until I found Kahlua... Now Black or White Russians are. And Southern Comfort's a "Sippin' whiskey" - It's sweeter than regular. I CAN stand "watered down" alcohol, such as Whiskey Sours (with the right kind of sour mix, and a bit of bar sugar), and someone made me an "Apple Sour" one time, probably Apple Brandy, sour mix, sugar, and I'm not sure what else (Apple Schnapps?) that tasted JUST like one of those Apple Gum Balls. And I've also had a "Delightfully Slow Comfortable Screw" - Screwdriver made with Sunny Delight, Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, and I can't recall if there's anything else in it. ;-) But, I don't drink any more... Diabetic... I have, WILL, and can nurse a single drink and/or beer for hours. And if there's ice left, suck on that for more. LOL But straight whiskey, scotch, gin, vodka, etc... :-P (for me)
  • If you are a non drinker at a party or a bar order Grenadine and sprite or grenadine and coke (if your dont want to walk around with a red drink)and have them put a couple marciano cherries in there for an added touch. It appears you are drinking but all your drinking in cherry flavored soda. When people are drinking all they notice is that you are drinkless. I use to do it all the time when i was the DD to keep my buddies and peeps i knew that i ran into from buying me drinks and shots.
  • No one is expected to drink alcohol. That's in your mind. It tastes awful and it is technically a poison to the body. If you are great fun to be around no one cares what the heck you are drinking.
  • Well, of course there are. There are also "former" alcoholics who CAN'T drink, security guards who shouldn't drink, etc., at all those functions. Hell, just drink a Coke or Pepsi. Far as anyone knows, it's a Rum & Coke, right? Sprite or 7up can have vodka or something else in it. And, who gives a sh-t what others think? BTW: If you run in social circles where they EXPECT EVERYONE to drink, they've obviously never heard of "designated" drivers. Don't sweat it, and don't drink, if you don't want to. (If you DO want a touch, I can make a beer last a couple of hours. I'm sure you can, too.) ;-)
  • yes; there are many others who dislike alcohol ... That is why they usually have Ginger ale, sprite or 7-up etc there for the Tea Totalers ...
  • I hate the taste of coffee so I know that I will hate the taste of alcohol. I will never drink alcohol in my life because it could ruin my life or worse. The worse that I'm referring to is death of myself or others.
  • I'm not fond of alcohol either, but in my drinking days I could drink Pink Chablis (wine), daquari, kamidazis; Amerato over ice; champagne; amarato w/soda (tastes like Dr. Pepper); but then on my 50th birthday I drank while taking antibiotics (not knowing that the body doesn't metabolize alcohol when on antibiotics) and I got dreadfully ill. That became a bit of aversion therapy for me . . . I seldom drink anymore unless it's a special occasion. I don't have friends that drink all the time so I have a couple bottles of champagne in my fridge just incase the occasion arises.
  • Sometimes I want a drink. But most times I don`t like the taste. There are drinks that you can`t really taste the alcohol in.But I know what you mean, some people seem to think there is something wrong if you don`t want to drink.I think it`s because they think you are looking down on them if they do.But I think everyone should just do what they like,no problem.Sometimes I say I prefur my cola straight on ice!
  • Expected or not, you are NOT required to drink anywhere!!! I often skip social functions where I know alcohol will be served. IF there is one that I "want" to attend, I get my drink & just hold it. Occasionally, I might put it up to my lips, but I still DON'T drink any of it. NOBODY is paying attention to who is drinking their drink as they are only worrying about downing their own FREE booze as fast as possible!!! There is NO "drink police" making sure you're drinking yours.
