It depends on what beach. Some beaches welcome full nudity, and others are family oriented, in which case I don't think a thong bikini would be appropriate. No, I wouldn't wear one any time or any place. They're not comfortable. It's like a permanent wedgie. And I don't have the body type for it anyway.

Depends on the beach. I often see that people who wear the most revealing costumes do not have the bodies to justify it. No, I would not wear one, because I am an overweight 50 yo with a big saggy butt that no one but my husband loves and has the right to see.

It really depends on the beach. In south florida they are totally appropriate. It has a much more european influence where thongs are more popular. But really the question comes down to if you are comfortable wearing them or not. mys elf, I prefer to wear a thong to the beach since it allows for that maximim tan. I also find them quite comfortable and I like the support they provide. You really have to just try it for yourself to see if they are for you.

I think thongs look ridiculous and uncomfortable. If you want to show off your bum, why not wear JUST a bikini TOP and NO BOTTOMS! It's a cool look and becoming very popular.

Yes. Women often look better in a thong than in something that turns the but into dissected lumps. Would I wear one? Yes, did twice last week and have done for years. No big deal once you get over your worries about what other people may think.

No they are not appropriate in most places. I am a mother of young teenage boys who, like most, does not need to be exposed to oversexualizing swimwear. Thongs should not be worn on public beaches simply out of respect for mothers and wives who are trying to have a respectable home. They are quite degrading and portray the woman as a tramp. Yes, I have worn one one a beach and deeply regret it as I was frowned upon by other women.

To the mother of the two teenage boys, I think if put to a vote they would out vote you, and vote yes on thongs. The idea that a mother cant have a 'respectable home' becuase they happened to see some one wearing a thong swimsuit when they went to the beach is rediculous. What you do in your home is your business, but you have no business telling others how to dress when at the beach. I don't usually wear a thong bikini, but I do when I go to Miami. They are very common on Miami Beach.

I think they are fine.I used to frequent a nude beach when in Greece,and bikinis are far from being risque.In fact many now wear thongs at the beach.

Fyi..In most cases you would probably be right however our internet is filtered and my 14 year old is more interested in learning how to become a Biblical man and remaining pure than engaging in meaningless smut that would hinder that goal. He is a very grounded person for his age and realizes the temptations of this world and where they can lead. He does his best to avoid situations that may cause him to stumble and should be allowed to enjoy a vacation without being exposed these types of things.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. The wearing of a thong is not a one size fits all deal. They have classes of driver's license, they don't let just anyone behind the wheel of tractor trailer rigs, or buses. Some women would not be offensive in a thong, while others would be a total eye sore. As for kids on the beach? While it may make for curiosity in some children to much discomfort to their parents, they get more sexual innuendo and references and images from TV and DVDs then some butt cheeks on a woman.

Completely appropriate ! I'm used to vacationing in Europe, where full nudity is perfectly OK. So thongs are morethan appropriate. Hell, I wouldn't even have a problem if nudity was allowed on U.S. beaches. Why not?

My wife and I wear thongs at the beach every chance we get, and at our pool all the time. We try and find a secluded area at the beach and just hang out all day. If someone comes along and they are offended, they can stay or go. We have also worn skimpy thongs at hotel pools in Cancun with no problems at all. We are not young (I'm 58 and she is 50) but not slobs either. Been married 24 years and have a lot of fun together. If couples would let loose a little and maybe do things that are considered a little over the top, maybe they wouldn't become bored with each other. I tried to upload a picture, but for some reason it won't let me. Maybe someone can educate me. And guys, thongs are the most comfortable things you can wear, and they don't weigh 10 lbs with water when you get out of the pool. Most men won't wear them because they are afraid what someone they don't know might think of them.

I think full nudity is appropriate for the beach, including "family" beaches, although I don't approve of public sex. "Nudity" does not equal "sex", although most prudes don't realize a distinction. I think that thongs are actually more provocative than simple nudity, in the same way that leather straps and chains can often be more provocative than nudity, too. So perhaps on that basis thongs and skimpy bikinis are "somewhat" inappropriate. Despite that, as long as our prudish lawmakers think that "covering up a little bit" is necessary, then the hell with it: it's all okay.

If you can wear a thong, and your flesh dosen't sag down enough to consume it... go for it. I can explain nudity to my kids.... When I have them... Besides all my friend's kids have a habit or running around naked, anyway.

Depends what beach? Personally I really don't like them. I was raised to believe that they are for the bedroom, seeing as how they were made for lingerie? Not swimwear at first, I strictly wear bikinis and string bikinis at 17, to every beach I visit. No need to expose my ass for some guy to holla at me like a booty call. I have a very nice body, proud of it, but not desperate for attention like most :)
