  • Don't eat too many. One banana is 2 servings of fruit! I'd suggest if you have iron problems you talk to your doctor about other foods and supliments you can take along with the banana to correct that.
  • Bananas are not the best thing to get more iron. Do you eat meat? Clams and oysters, liver, beef, shrimp, turkey, all have lots of iron. Veggies and fruit that have iron are spinach and any dark green leafy things like collards and kale. Watermelon has 3 times the iron as bananas. Strawberries have more than bananas. Other things that have iron are rice, tofu, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, molasses, lentils, beans, wheat germ.
  • I recommend eating baby spinach, 3-4 pounds a week. It is delicious sauteed with butter until soft but still crisp. Also try collard greens and mustard greens, but make sure to wash them thoroughly before cooking them. Sautee the collard greens lightly with onions and garlic. They are delicious. You can put spinach in pasta, omelettes, etc.

  • Bananas are high in potassium, not iron. Eat liver or spinach to replace iron.
