  • Yes I feel safe, if an intruder breaks in chances are I know my home layout much better than him, there is a very good chance that I will shoot him before he so much as sees me. Besides that, if I had to hit him with a weapon such as a bat or a knife, he could easily be armed, or if not, there is a 70% chance (read it in a article) that he will be able to fatally wound me before he dies or passes out.
  • Oh yeah definitely i don't think firearms are ever acceptable to have even for self defense.
  • I own two hand guns. I'm confident that any intruder would be the loser in this case. I also have two kids one is 6 the other 2. that scares me more than any intruder. I now buy ammo ONLY when I go to the shooting range. If some one were to break in, just the sound of the slide on my 45 should send anyone running!
  • yes i do. the chances of some-one getting past the dog are slim. by then i'm awake and loaded.
  • no I would not....I have several hidden in different places in my home and I have an escape plan and I keep my cell phone on my night stand
  • I sleep on top of a loaded S&W 629, and I've been shooting since early childhood - guns are a way of life for me. The rest of my guns are very securely locked in a gun room that would take considerable effort to locate, let alone breach. Ammo is stored separately from the firearms, and none are loaded except for the 629. My line of sight from the bedroom goes directly to the gun storage room. Outside access might be possible but would most likely not provide successful intrusion for the housebreaker, who would have to bring his own gun or bring a knife to the gunfight.
  • You could place the ammo in a different place. That is what I do. So that if children were to get into the gun case when I was not around would have no way in firing one of them. Plus I keep one near me just in case a intruder was to come in like that.................... M.C.S.
  • The only way you will feel safe with a firearm in the house is if you have training. You are better off with no firearm if you aren't confident in it's use, and willing to use it on another human. Never point a firearm at someone unless you are absolutely prepared to shoot them. (Note, I didn't say "shoot them" I said "Prepared to shoot them". It is a miserable decision, and one I hope you never have to make. If you are not willing to shoot, you will get the gun taken from you when the struggle starts. Your robber may have just became your murderer. Long story short. A firearm for home defense is likely to be useless unless you are trained and confident in it's use. Always remember that your only weapon is your mind. A firearm is just a tool.
  • I have a firearm and it does make me feel safer, rightly or wrongly. I would not be too concerned about an intruder getting to it before me. I have a barky little dog who would alert me to anyone coming in uninvited. I also have no little children (or big children for that matter), so I don't have to worry about that aspect of having a firearm in the house. I do understand some people's reluctance with regard to guns, but the only time I would be afraid of a gun is when it's in the hands of someone else. I am a crack shot and go to a range infrequently to shoot. I think being a woman and being able to shoot a gun is a good thing.
  • I don't believe in firearms. I think they are bad all together. The chances of my son finding the gun and playing with it are a lot higher than the chances of someone breaking into my house, and me having the time to unlock it from a safe to get them. I live in a two bedroom apartment, come on. I lock my doors and keep my cell phone by the bed. And my dad was a self defence instructor. I could kill you with my pinky.
  • if an intruder broke into my home and smashed my gun case it would do no good, all the guns in the case are unloaded and not near the ammo.i however would be more than glad to greet him w/ the only loaded weapon in my home which would be in my hands pointed at him.
  • The guns in my home are kept in my bedroom ..and I have a spare in the laundry room..last place anyone would think to look for it :)
  • Keep it next to you at night. Why would you lock them all up?
  • Do I feel safe around firearms? NO. I'd use my mad kung-fu skillz to disarm any number of intruders (up to 17 armed or 23 unarmed ones).
  • Hi Brook- I have key locks on mine. They target shooting rifles mostly.
  • I feel safer in my gun-less house with two pit-bulls than I ever did in my parents' home with 27+ firearms.
  • The guns are all in a big ole safe that's not exactly smashable. If I had my pistol on me, I would feel very safe, as I am a very good shot. So is my husband. But, for the most part, we have guns for hunting or target practice because we enjoy shooting.
  • I feel much safer with firearms in my home. My guns are stored in a case under my bed and I have a 9mm handgun on me at all times. There is no way an intruder could get to one of my guns before me. How would this intruder even know exactly where your guns are located in the first place? The scenario you are trying to portray is just doesn’t happen in real life. It is more likely that the intruder will already have a gun or he will flee at the site of your gun or get shot.
  • Displaying guns in such a case is both foolhardy and impractical. There are floor safes and bedroom safes that can be opened very quickly with the right code, yet strong enough to withstand an earthquake. Never let anyone know what you've got where. Especially children.
  • My guns are under my control, an intruder would never see any guns. Couldn't find them if they smashed up the whole house. I have a very sophisticated alarm system that allows police to show up before the bad guy finishes his job, that kicks in while I am away. Too bad for him. But if they busted in while I am home, I will consent to allowing them possession of only a very small portion of my firearm. 240 grains at a time.
  • First, I don't like gun cases, I do like gun safes. But, if I had a gun case then none of the guns would be loaded. They would have to break in to find the "right shells or cartridges". Mine would be in my hands, loaded and ready to go.
  • Yes What's a guncase good for, other than to show off the fact that you've got weapons in your home. They make all sorts of safes that look like pictures or clocks probably anything you want.
  • I can't own a handgun, due to the fact that I've been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons (I was suicidal for a while, but I'm much better now, yet New York State won't issue me a handgun license), but I do keep a sword next to my bed, within extremely close reach, and I feel quite safe, because if anyone were to break into my apartment, they'd leave their fingerprints behind... along with the hand they're attached to. Of course, I do have other swords on display, but they're attached to the wall in such a way that, should anyone want to use them, they'd have to have a screwdriver and a lot of patience, at the very least.
  • not everyone keeps them in a gun case.
  • yes it make me feel safe and would not hesitate to aim at an intruder's hind parts. This is always the best target area. If the intruder is facing you, you must trick him into turning around by telling him that a naked women is behind him. Just take aim and let the round go into his bottom. This always work and will get you off the hook when the police come to arrest you because everyone knows that a shot in the anus is worth 2 in the bush.
  • I feel much safer with guns than I ever did without. There's no way a burglar would be able to get to my guns before me unless he came in through my bedroom window, climbed over my head, located the cases, picked the locks, and got them out.
  • That's why I have wolverines. If an intruder wants to get to the wolverines first, he'll lose a hand.
  • i do feel very safe in my home. an intruder is not going to get into my locked gunsafe, nor know where the ones i have out of it are located. if one breaks into my home hed better be packin with his own and bring a lot of ammo. why do i feel safe against an intruder? i own 35 firearms and have plenty of ammo stocked for them. im talking a piece of mind! ps. i wonder how many he can bring to the party?
  • EVERYONE SHOULD STUDY A FORM OF UNARMED SELF DEFENSE. THERE ARE ALSO ASIAN SYSTEMS OF SELF DEFENSE WHICH TEACH ARMED METHODS AND USE THE STICK AND KNIFE. Most effective is the Arnis deMano system from the Philippines. Just look for a professional instructor. You can find some additional info at http://www.donbitanga.com
