I don't know what you mean by "a highly secured island", but it certainly sounds more stable - more reliable, more long-lasting - than the house boat. Also: larger. The house boat might have problems during storms, and (it seems to me) would require more frequent and costly maintenance, and likely would be much smaller in space for the same priced house. Also: much more expensive monthly bills, since your power is going to come from an on-board generator instead of from the electric company, the gas company, etc. Potable water probably would have to be BOUGHT and LOADED, unless you have some sort of water purification system onboard.

I would live on a highly secured island as long as there were people and an airport with flights to other places. Otherwise to me it sounds like solitary confinement.
