Depends on their age of course. My family expects the kids to be involved at a young age. They have to help with the acorn harvest in the fall. They each have a small basket to pick them up in and bring them to grandma to check over. This way they learn which ones are good and which ones they should throw away. Same with the little ones being expected to help with picking up kindling or other small stuff. It teaches them to interact with the relatives and gives them a sense of belonging too. As they get older, their resposibility to the family increases too.
