  • Hi Jenny....about your question....the correct quote is at Isaiah 43: 10 & 12 & 44:8 (Isaiah 43:10)

Hello pug, unless you practice Judaism, the book of Isaiah targets the Jews, not the Gentiles. Aren't you forgetting the New Testament? Mark 14:24 "And He said unto them, This is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many."

Hi. W.A.D. 68....The question remains....Why do we die...wear out ? ALL our bodies cells replace every seven years...so on this basis we should live forever...but we do not...because we are imperfect,,,Adam and Eve brought death upon us...Genesis 2: 16,17...[ there was no death before this ] and Jesus' sacrifice has PAID to have death removed... 1 Corinthians 15: 54,55 Its been in the Bible a long time...a promise of no more death...This can only apply to living people...it has nothing to do with being spirituqal in heaven, as false religion teaches. Q.E.D.
  • It's possible because that is what they choose to believe and the church they choose to attend.

Well said. That's what "they" choose to believe. :)
  • Hi Jenny, In your question you make me feel like you are saying one or the other. As a follower of Jesus, I try to give Jesus and his Father, Jehovah the recognition they deserve. Jesus himself said in John 17:6 "I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. KJV and in verse 3 Jesus showed the importance of knowing His Father where it says "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. KJV As a follower of Jesus, should I put His (Jesus) name above His Fathers name? Well for me Jesus own example at 1 Corinthians 15:28 "And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all." The American Standard Version says it this way, 1 Corinthians 15:28 'And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all". and even Byington says it this way, 1 Corinthians 15:28 "But when everything has been subjected to him, then the Son himself too will be subjected to him who subjected everything to him, in order that God may be everything in everything. If you look at the context of this chapter, it shows' that Jesus will accomplish (at some point in the future) everything that his Father (Jehovah) had assigned Him (Jesus) to do. So for me; if Jesus will subject Himself to His Father (Jehovah) so will I.

Thanks for sharing and for asking a good question. I am more than glad to answer it. Quote: "As a follower of Jesus, should I put His (Jesus) name above His Fathers name?" If you are a true follower of Jesus, you should know that no other name besides Jesus saves. Acts 4:12 "Neither is there Salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
  • Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the sect, was firm in his insistence that the movement he started should only be known as "Christians" or "Church of Christ." However, shortly after he died, his followers decided that they needed a label to distinguish themselves from other Christian sects, and arbitrarily pointed to Isaiah 43:10.

Thanks for sharing! I'm a Gentile not a Jew. Isaiah 43:10 is Old Testament thinking. In other words, OT thinking is to split the Bible in half, as it is what Judaism teaches, that the religious Jews are Yahweh's Witnesses.

I agree that a NT scripture would have served their identity much better, but also the OT still applies to Christians to some extent per 2 Timothy 3:16.

All-Scripture is given by inspiration of God, although Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father, but by Him. (John 14:6) Any man who does not enter the sheepfold by the door and climbs up in another way is a thief and a robber. (John 10:1)

Hi 64, I would like to address your statement that the choice of Jehovah's Witnessess was arbitrarily, here is the Resolution that was voted on at the convention in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A., held on July 24-30, 1931. “In order that our true position may be made known, and believing that this is in harmony with the will of God, as expressed in his Word, BE IT RESOLVED, as follows, to wit: “THAT we have great love for Brother Charles T. Russell, for his work’s sake, and that we gladly acknowledge that the Lord used him and greatly blessed his work, yet we cannot consistently with the Word of God consent to be called by the name ‘Russellites’; that the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society and the International Bible Students Association and the Peoples Pulpit Association are merely names of corporations which as a company of Christian people we hold, control and use to carry on our work in obedience to God’s commandments, yet none of these names properly attach to or apply to us as a body of Christians who follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Master, Christ Jesus; that we are students of the Bible, but, as a body of Christians forming an association, we decline to assume or be called by the name ‘Bible Students’ or similar names as a means of identification of our proper position before the Lord; we refuse to bear or to be called by the name of any man; “THAT, having been bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer, justified and begotten by Jehovah God and called to his kingdom, we unhesitatingly declare our entire allegiance and devotion to Jehovah God and his kingdom; that we are servants of Jehovah God commissioned to do a work in his name, and, in obedience to his commandment, to deliver the testimony of Jesus Christ, and to make known to the people that Jehovah is the true and Almighty God; therefore we joyfully embrace and take the name which the mouth of the Lord God has named, and we desire to be known as and called by the name, to wit, Jehovah’s witnesses.” As you can see the name change was was to direct all attention to our God Jehovah. The brothers at that time was being called (as you might have noticed in the document above) ‘Russellites’. As Jehovah's witnesses, we teach that Gods Kingdom ruled by his Son Jesus, is the only answer for mankind. One translation of the word "witness' is "public affirmation by word or example of usually religious faith or conviction." (the heroic witness to divine life—Pilot) and ("to bear witness to one's religious convictions." (opportunity to witness for Christ—Billy Graham) Also in line with the theme of witnesses, the Bible talks of so many servants of God as his witnesses, Hebrews chapter 11 gives a line of faithful servants starting from Abel, then in chapter 12 the apostle Paul writes in the Byington translation at Hebrews 12:1 "Consequently let us too, having around us such a cloud of witnesses... also look at what the King James Version says at Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness..." If you have read this whole thing, thanks; but it comes down to the fact the name Jehovah's Witnesses has meaning to all of us who have accepted Jehovah as our God and His son as our King of His Kingdom.
