  • what is the point in having one if youre not going to use it?
  • Say no to religious discrimination. Islam is a religion like all other and its minarets should stay.
  • There isn't any political, religious, or social reason to ban them. . This is a question answered by the local building code. They can't be built in the usual style in my city because of hurricanes. They'd have to be built sturdy like lighthouses, which is a good use for them. . They are phallic symbols, and funny ironic jokes that way. I'm surprised that they aren't wrapped in ribbons on May Day more often, but Muslims are a dour and humorless lot. . Let the down rating begin. .
  • Wow. I wouldn't have expected something like that from the Swiss.
  • I suppose if they were somehow damaging to society, and I highly doubt they are.
  • No unless you kick out the towers on churches too. http://www.budapest-hotel.hu/images/sof_matthias_church_b.jpg
  • ...along with church bells...
  • Eventually, I suspect the entire religion of Islam will be banned in many countries.
  • Even if the minarets were not to be banned, I would like a law that would ban fixing of loudspeakers to the top of the minarets. Their early morning scream is too disturbing in any neighborhood. Why can't they call the faithful to pray the old way, by shouting from the top of the minarets, without using loud speakers?
  • Nope! Here's me thinking Switzerland was a tolerant country.
  • About the only inappropriate spot would be near an airport.
  • No! I am not a religious person but I appreciate beautiful buildings. Some of the worlds most impressive buildings, both ancient and modern, are churches, mosques and temples. I don't buy the argument that the call to prayer or church bells are disruptive to residents living near these buildings either. When you live in the city the noises one is regularly exposed to is constant; sirens, air planes, traffic all these things make noise but I don't see calls to ban fire stations or airports. After living in the city, near an airport, I can say after awhile you don't notice the noise. These bans are about religious discrimination and little else I am afraid.
  • No its a violation of religious freedom and human rights. I thought switzerland was a neutral country. What a piece of shit... How about they ban the star of david for the jews?
