  • It sounds from your question that this is a single lever type. There is a ball attached that swivels in some soft seats. it is possible that they are damaged. find the make of the faucet and go to the hardware store to by the entire soft repair kit. Do this first but don't open till you actually need them so you can return them if the problem is something else. generally there is an allen screw holding the handle on.. loosen and remove handle. Oh... turn off the water both hot and cold and drain lines in the lowest faucet in the house. Now back to the faucet .. generally the cap is a threaded cap and can be removed by turning it counterclockwise with a small pipewrench .. use some cloth between the teeth of the pipewrench and the metal faucet cap to avoid damage . once you get the cap off just pull the ball out of its socket and understand what the problem is... replace parts and reverse to put back together....
  • Rings and washers need to be replaced. Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes all have repair kits to remedy your problem. for more information, ask a rep. at one of these stores. And, be sure to turn your water off BEFORE you begin to make any changes.
