  • Almost. When I was in 4th grade my dog was put to sleep. I was there laying on the ground next to him in the Cat Room (it was an old shelter and they didn't have tables at the time). My dad pulled me away for the second shot, the one that made him sleep forever. I'm 22 and I still shed tears about that sometimes...some right now even. The dog after was hit by a car. And the dog I have now, I can only hope he dies in my arms. I think that would be very soothing for him. The last gift I can give him, my comfort to him.
  • 2. Horses 3.cats, 2.dogs, Its the last thing we can do for them, to be there. Not leave them with strangers. So sorry for you Cotton, she will have had a good life with you.
  • No I haven't but I'm so sorry. Spunky looked like such a nice dog and I bet his name fit him well...+5
  • Oh Cotton ~ I'm so sorry for your loss. Ever since my first cat died and I wasnt in the room (I ran out and vomited on the roadside at the thought), I felt guilty for not staying, and I've vowed that when ever the choice isnt taken from me (i.e road accidents), that I would be there for each and every one of my cats when their time came/comes. No matter how hard it is for me, I know it's the last thing I can do for my beloved pets. At least four times so far I've kept my promise. We have six cats now ~ I've got lots of heartache coming one day, but I could never live without them having been in my life.
  • Cotton, I just looked at your photo of Spunky. What a beautiful little dog! You obviously loved this little dog so much and I am so sorry to hear of her death. Losing a loved animal is almost unbearable. Several times it has happened to me. Please accept my condolences and know that we are thinking of you in your sadness.
  • I'm very sorry for your loss, Cotton. And yes, we euthanised our dear friend Bub just over a year ago. It was a horrendous experience as he had fallen horribly ill, but it was the only thing we could do for him. He had love for us in his eyes up to the last moment - even if he couldn't move to wag his tail anymore.
  • I am so sorry for the loss of your long time friend Cotton! I'm sure you gave her the best life possible ... it's so hard to lose our pets who become family members! My heart goes out to you. I've lost many pets before and it's never easy ... but it makes a bit more bearable when we realize how much love we shared with them. Take Care.
  • i can empathize, Cotton.....my best friend and companion just passed in my arms on the 19th.......my grandson is devastated...i am very sorry for your loss....:)
  • Im so sorry to hear that Cotton, I have been lucky o far, I have a cat older than medusa, I thought she would have been gone years ago, but she is stubburn like me.
  • Sorry to hear that, Cotton! Yes. . . . .I've had to euthanize a couple of dogs whom I loved dearly! Stayed right with them! It's VERY difficult to do! But I could NEVER just "turn them over" to a vet to die alone! They gave me their lives. I owed them my "support" and love in the end!
  • So sorry to hear about Spunky. Take comfort in the fact that you provided him a wonderful life and cherish the memories.
  • I am so sorry about the loss of your dear friend Cotton, my arms reach out to hold you tight, she had your love as you had hers my friend, that will never pass away .
  • So sorry to hear of your loss Cotton. It is a hard thing to watch, but know that your little friend had a good life with you and she would not have had it any other way then for you to be there with her as she passed. I have had several pass in my arms, and am worried that I will have another very soon. My buddy Pugslee is getting ready to turn 18 and he is fading fast. Remember the good times my friend.
  • So sorry, Cotton. Yes, I have had that happen myself. It's a very painful experience. My heart is with you on this. :(:(:(
  • Yes, I have and I know how you feel. It is very painful, and sad to lose your best friend. My heart goes out to you, my friend, I am so sorry for your loss. :(
  • I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know how important pets are and how devastating it is to lose one. I'm glad Spunky was with you when she passed. She was in the arms of someone she loved and loved her in return.

  • Cotton, I am so sorry to hear that Spunky has passed away. I have never had anything die in my arms before, but what a special thing to know that when she took her last breath she was being held by the person who loved her.
  • Yes I have. Many times. All of them hard. But losing my 13 year old dog this December has broken something in my heart that will never be fixed. She was "the one" dog of my lifetime and can never be replaced. I cry every day from the pain of losing her and the pain of missing her. I'm sorry for your loss and I understand your pain.
