If I'm smart, it's by the Grace of God giving me the drive and desire to learn, be observant, and study when needed. It's of none of my own doing. I have to give the honor and glory to God.

I chose to listen when others spoke, instead of just waiting for my turn to speak.

What little I know comes from realizing that, given what there is to learn, I'm not so smart. I've learned more by stepping backward to gain perspective than I have by charging forward ill prepared.

By the time I reached an age of 15 or so I realized that what those considered wiser and elder to me talked about was a lot of crap. From then on I have been using my brains analyzing what they said before following their instructions. This way I have been able to carve out a path of my own in this jungle called the world. Not that I have grown any smart, but I have survived this long. That is an achievement in itself.

I learned from my failures and I failed on most of the things I tried the first time.

Read... EVERYTHING... Books, comics, newspapers, cereal boxes, my grandmother's Reader's Digests and Upper Rooms, etc. Started working when I was 11 (real work, no paper route, here!) Watched a LOT of TV... Listened to a LOT of music (records, radio, tapes, etc.)... Learned to learn, and like it... And banged my head on those damn door closers a LOT when I was younger. (Knocked a LOT of sense into me, I guess.) ;-)

I think I am smart for a primate, partly due to interiting the genes of my fairly smart parents, and partly up to having attentive parents who wanted me to learn.
