At what age do you think children stop being influence by thier parents?

My husband is nearly 40 and is still very influenced by his mother. he calls her before he makes any major decision. I think that most people, if they have decent ( I didn't say good) relationships with their parents, continue to be influenced by them.

In most western, so-called "advanced" societies; at 7 they start resisting, and by 12 they're pretty much emancipated (Though they still pretend that their mommy's and daddy's opinions still count).

Even if you were willing to re-teach yourself everything that your parents ever taught you, the answer is "never." They gave you your first life experiences and whether you choose to use them or not, you knew nothing of them until your parents presented them to you. Never. Even once a child gains their own opinions and beliefs, they are and always will be influenced by their parents. Children spend the most developmental years of their lives with their parents and that is a huge part of what makes them who they are.

I think they will always be influenced by their parents, and this will never change. When they get old they wonder if they are living up to their parent’s expatiations.

I would hope that my children never stop being influenced by me, either by the good examples I have tried to set for them, the life lessons I have tried to teach them, or by their seeing the many mistakes I have made in my life and learning from those mistakes.
