New Hampshire has no sales tax period, but taxes prepared food (8% meal tax).

Michigan does not either. But fast food and already prepared food is taxed.

California doesn't tax food items. It taxes just about everything else, but there a few exceptions, such as food animals (livestock), food plants and seeds, fertilizer used to grow food, prescription drugs and certain medical supplies, energy utilities, certain alternative energy devices and supplies, art for display by public agencies, and veterans' pins. There are many specific exemptions for various veterans', non-profit, educational, religious, and youth organizations.

Ohio has no sales tax for groceries, unless it's beer or soda. Prepared food isn't taxed either if you get it to go. If you dine in there's a tax for dining in. However, the soda or alcohol portion of the meal is taxed even if you get it to go.
