What's the difference between .docm, .dotx, and .dotm? I know they are file types but what is their purpose? How are they different? Website links would be helpful. Thank you.

Microsoft Office 2007 introduced new file types based on XML. Extensions starting with doc are documents and those starting with dot are templates.
