  • I don't see anything about a SIM card slot. It has an 8in1 card reader for cards that are most commonly used with cameras/mp3 players/etc. It has internal expansion slots and an expresscard slot, which takes the place of the old PC Cards. http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
  • I can confirm that there is a sim card slot behind the battery after it is removed. I am assuming it is some sort of security module, perhaps for 802.1X authentication.
  • even i found the same slot in mine... i guess its for GPRS connectivity... still looking for answers regarding the same...
  • I have found out that it is for GPRS and 3G communications. It is just a placeholder in most laptops. You still need the GPRS/3G radio modem. My 1525 only has a Conexant HDA D330 MDC V.92 Dialup Modem. I was kinda hoping that the Conexant could do both dialup and GPRS but I am sure that it can't do that. Please correct me if im wrong because I'd love to have GPRS. It would be cool to set ut up as a mobile phone too, and just use a bluetooth headset for calls. Does anyone know if there is a GPRS module that you can buy for this laptop?
  • it depends i have the 1525 ubuntu edition with a 550 celeron and 80gb disk and 1g ram (its great for work and cheap) except the sound is lousy and the pad goes crazy sometimes (i use a mouse anyway) i have no 8-1 card reader that i can see yet i have a sim card i can take in and out is this the 8-1 ?? do not think so ... i really do not know
  • When you purchase the Inspiron 1525 online you're given the option of aquiring 3g internet connectivity with companies like: AT&T, Sprint, Etc. So that slot is for the SIM Cards that those companies give their customers. It's actually a modem that works with a Cell Phone technology, but it will only work with some radio frequencies.
  • this system works but not with all the sim card by all operaters . it works with some operater like vodafone , sprint tel us etc . this service is limitted to few countries . dona wast your time hehehehehehehehe puting in and out different sim cards in the card slot in your computer under the battry , hehehehehehe . if you are one of the lucky one and you have such service in your country , then you can enjoy this service . but it is not for free . even activation for t he service will snach your burger , hehehehehehe . so better not to dream about this
