what do you mean "under disability"? i think that in most states it doesn't matter if you have an operational or broken weapon. in my state, i don't think that mere possession is a crime in the home.

Here is a "loaded" question for you. You plan on robbing a bank. you have this gun that does not work and are planning on using it as the armed robbery weapon. Something goes wrong with your robbery and the police order you to drop your weapon. you decide to point this gun "that doesn't work" at the police and you are shot dead. Was it worth it? Point being, if you are going to protect your home with a weapon, make sure its in working order. The police will not ask you if your gun works. its not required.
