In an English pub, the first thing that springs to mind is pie and chips (that's fries, for you Americans). However, these days, you can find almost all types of food, such as chicken in the basket type stuff, sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, steaks - the whole lot. For some reason, some of the more traditional pubs, especially around London, sell jellied eels and pickled eggs too, which sound disgusting. As for Irish pubs, I've no idea as I never went to Ireland.

English pubs it has to be scampi and chips and for bar snacks they have pork scratchings or peanuts.
