I have been trying to get reservations for New Year's (Hogmanay) at Kilconquhar Castle for two years now. This is the ancestral home of William Wallace and it looks just beautiful. http://www.kilconquharcastle.co.uk/specials/lastminuteoffers/ <edit>It is not the ancestral home of William Wallace, it is the home of Robert the Bruce. Don't know why I always get that confused.

Think its hard for some one who has come from a big busy city to tiny little villages. Its a whole Different way of life there, time, the people, the village gossips! but now im back in england, its lovely to go back on a hoilday with just the twice yearly visits to family there.thats enough for me !

  • I think the question shouldn't be 'does anyone like scotland?' but 'Does anyone not like Scotland?' I have lived around scotland all my life and don't think very much of it at all. Everyone is the same and all the places are the same. The weather is rubbish! lucky if you get two months of sunshine each year.

  • As long as it is still inhabited, then someone must like it, so YES ... as for me, I have never been there, but the photos in my friend's albums are very nice looking, and he claims it was a great place to visit ...
  • What's not to love? My ancestors were Scots, as far back as it's possible to know.I've always thought of Scotland as THE ONE LAND on this planet where everything would come right. My visits to Scotland did nothing to change that view. I'm still totally enchanted by Caledonia. But when the Scots Parliament instituted a nationwide smoking ban, I lost interest. My faith is still in the Scots people, though. And the whisky, Nancy Whisky, Nancy-O.
