Yup rattlesnakes scare me. When I was a kid, a friend of my father's walked outside one night onto his porch without turning on the porchlight. He stepped on a rattler, and was bitten twice on the bare foot. He lived about 50 miles from the closest doctor or hospital, and about 20 of those miles were on dirt roads. He ended up losing his foot from the snake bite. Now crippled for life, his way of life was drastically changed. I remember him saying the snake never rattled until after the first bite too.
