  • I don't think you can hate without despising if - I think you first start dispising people and then if you are a very angry and bitter person eventually start hating (you shouldn't have to hate anyone) people you don't like shouldn't be a part of your life, remember that anger feelings like hate makes you bitter and becomes a habbit, its better not to hate but simply to ignore
  • Both are just as destructive to the person carrying these emotions around. It can affect you negatively, both mentally and physically, while the person who you despise or hate goes on their merry way.
  • indifference is worse then either despise or hate
  • Hate, you should never use that word.
  • Hate. It just creates war, racism and violence.
  • i love to hate...hating feels good. hating is amazing. hating is what i do best. i love HATE.
  • hate, despise is just a really harsh of saying i don't like.
  • I don't think either is bad but despise is the stronger feeling.
  • I don't know. you'd have to ask the person who hates and despises. That is who is affected the most by it.
  • If you are talking about people, I am a firm believer that you have to love to hate. If you think you hate, then there is still some love there.Indifference or ambivalence is far worse.
  • Yeah, but hate is often used in such an off hand way, like: "I hate broccoli." If someone takes the time to find a stronger word, rest assured that they feel more strongly about the subject. Despise certainly SOUNDS stronger...
  • Well when hate can do this.... 34 years ago when Pol Pot declared year zero and that the population of Kampuchea, Cambodia was going to be purified. Capitalism, Western culture, city life, religion, and all foreign influences were to be extinguished in favor of an extreme form of peasant Communism. Whole cities were evacuated on foot were many died of exhaustion. They were then sent to fields were starving people were to harvest food that if they ate they were shot. Pol Pot hated anything that wasn’t his image of peasant communism. He set out to destroy anything that was not his vision weather it be cars and bicycles, or Chinese people and Buddhist monks. He hated all things that made the life better for the people like health care, education, or religion. Hatred in Cambodia destroyed over 1/3 of the population or about 2 million people.
  • Despising is a feeling emerging after hating. If you hated someone, you may not have despised them yet. Howeverm, that doesn't mean you hate a person you despise. It sounds complicated but let me explain. Once you hate somebody, you think about that one very much, even whole days: you may manage to trick them, you may say bad behind their back, you may search ways to damage their life. That mentally absorbs your power and time, so causes stress upon yourself. It's a strong emotion which is called "burning stare". That's why Hate is commonly refered as the antonym of Love. Differently, Despise is a treatment for this "sickness in mind". In case you despise a person, you find no pleasure to be with them: you avoid meeting them or even looking at them, you don't want to keep contact with them, you don't spend time thinking about them. In other words, you tend to be indifferent of them. This certainly the principal diffence between Despise and Hate. In brief, Hate and Despise are of two steps of a big emotional evolution. In such a process, Hate comes before, then Despise. Which one is worse ? It's your own decision!
  • My answer contributes nothing productive but this question makes me think of the song "Spoken Words of Venom" by Naglfar, where the lyric in the second chorus is "I despise you, Oh how I hate you. Sorry about my black metal nerding.
  • Neither..... it's DISAPOINTMENT.
  • the most painfull is tht u know that when u fel hated my some one that u really care and really love
  • Hatred at least is tinged with regard - sometimes even a kind of admiration. But to despise someone is to look on them as worthless, as if they were nothing but shit - or less. Better to be hated than to be despised.
  • It seems like despise is worse than hate.
