One of the interesting things about "Tale of Two Cities" is that both first and the last lines of the book have become memorable by-words. "It is a far, far, better thing than ever I have done." is the last line. "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times," are the first lines. Both lines are said by Sydney Carton, the narrator of the book.
