• Most email services nowadays use an image text test to prevent spammers from doing just that and creating multiple email accounts programatically. Text is displayed as a JPG image, often with random splotches of color thrown in, so that a program can't "read" the text off the screen. It takes a human eye to read the word and type it back in. So, yes, all such programs as you describe have been rendered obsolete, and will hopefully remain so for the forseeable future.
