  • Only if you belong to the Every Sperm Is Scared school of thought.
  • No, it works by preventing the egg from being released at all.
  • The so called Day After pill is. Pills that you take daily to prevent ovulation are not. Edit: or maybe not, read the comments below.
  • Not at all! It probaly saves more babies from being aborted.
  • If you're going to say that it is, you may as well also say that any woman who's had more than one period in her life is a serial killer.
  • The pill doesn't prevent ovulation because there are a weeks worth of pills in each pack that are placebos so women can have periods. This isn't true with all but it is with most of them. If it was all designed to prevent ovulation, they wouldn't put inactive ones in the package.
  • if it is, so is having a headache.
  • The pill *does* prevent ovulation. Those inactive pills are there so that you can have your period - a time at which you are very unlikely to be able to ovulate in the first place. The reason that this is necessary is that the uterus needs to shed its lining, which is what a period is. It is NOT abortion. Abortion is where you are pregnant to begin with and then do not go through with the birth, for whatever reason. Miscarriages are a natural form of abortion, abortion surgeries are an un-natural way to do this. The "morning after" pill prevents the egg (fertilized or not) from attatching to the wall of the uterus, thus preventing pregnancy and is therefore also not really an abortion, as it is preventing pregnancy in the first place (again).
  • no, its preventative.
  • Not at all.
  • NO!!!!! It PREVENTS the egg from being released so that you DON"T GET PREGNANT!!!!
  • Well like I said before, 'only if you think you kill 50 million people every time you jerk off in the shower.' But more seriously, abortion is usually considered the ABORTION of a PREGNANCY, in other words, the termination of a fetus. Birth control prevents fertilization of the egg and thus no fetus develops. So no, it is not abortion. It is prophylaxis.
  • no because it stops ovulation completely. if you are on the fewer percentile that does get pregnant on the other hand yes. it also changes the lining of the uterus which would cause the fertilized egg to flow out of a womans body like a period.
  • Keeps an egg from being released, this has no connection with abortion.
  • No not a regular birth control pill as it doesn't allow fertilization so no union of egg and sperm. The morning after pill might be considered abortion as it could be the expelling of an egg that did get fertilized. But it also depends on your definition of abortion and when you think life starts.
  • No, it is a form of preventing the need for abortion.
  • nope because your not killing anything coz nothing is there to kill!!
  • Birth control is not called birth control because it prevents you from having a baby after your egg has already been fertilized. It is called so because it prevents your egg from ever being fertilized. As "Rabbit" and a few others have said, it prevents fertilization. It does this by decreasing the release of gonadotropins, specifically FSH which initiates the production and LH which causes the release of the egg. The egg is broken down before its ever even developed. To really have an abortion you would have to be pregnant first. If you wanting religiously speaking, then even in marriage safe sex is practiced, if God wanted you to have a baby, you would.
  • No. Abortion is ending a life. Birth control is stopping the life from coming into existence in the first place.

  • No, it's just a crappy form of contraception that interferes with a woman's hormones and makes her put on weight and feel horrible.
  • Oh god help us all if this is what you think.
  • I dont think it is. Abortion takes out what is already growing, the parasite (or baby, same thing)...the pill attempts at stopping it from actually forming into some form of life so nothing is beign aborted becuase it hasnt started.
  • no, pregnancy can continue for weeks while still on the pill and not harm your baby. (although u should stop the pill as soon as u no ur pregnant)
  • No. It isn't.
  • Yeah...so are condoms and abstinence. WTF?
  • Nope, the birth control pill is not another form of abortion. It is only Fundies and Catholics who believe that.
  • No, birth control pills are not another form of abortion and neither are the IUD. Man, these mentally-retarded evil Christians really do piss the crap out of me with their ignorance and mythinformation campaign of sheer stupidy and malice
  • NO. The Pill interferes with the cycle and production of the egg; no life is formed, hence no abortion is possible.
  • Birth control is the prevention of a birth. The pill is contraceptive. No baby (fetus) is ever made.
  • In order for an operation to be aborted, it must first be commenced. Birth control pills prevent that from even happening. No abortion is necessary.
  • No, definitely not! Some people would like to argue that it is, but you only have to look to the science behind how birth control pills work to know the correct answer. BCPs work by preventing monthly ovulation (hence, no egg released=no chance of a fertilized egg=no abortion), and increasing cervical mucus so if by some chance an egg is released, it is less likely that a sperm will reach it (hence, no egg fertilized=no abortion)!
  • No because it tricks your body into thinking it's already pregnant, so an egg doesn't get released. That's how birth control pills work. It doesn't kill a fetus, there's no egg to make one.
  • Technically not. Birth control is supposed to prevent the ovaries from being fertilized in the first place to prevent conception and formation of an embryo and live fetus. Abortion is destruction of a live fetus that eventually becomes a viable person separated from the womb at birth. The Catholic Church is against birth control. But the far greater evil is abortion which amounts to the destruction of a human life by killing of a baby not completely formed.
  • I would say it would save your babies
  • Some wack jobs people believe this but it is soo not true.
  • The pill is not a form of abortion in any way. It prevents the egg from being released, meaning no egg is ever fertilized or later terminated. People who don't know what they are talking about may try to say this, but very untrue.
  • it doesnt abort the baby, it aborts the chances of having a baby
  • Despite what some ppl who have knowledge of anything have to say, yes birth control is a from of abortion. What did ppl use in the old days NOT to get pregnant? They didnt have birth control or abortion back in the days that Jesus walked the earth.. So birth control actually IS a form of abortion since God created man and woman to 'MULTIPLY.' So yeah, there's an answer, and not to be a smart butt or anything but I wouldnt listen to any of the uneducated ppl who are saying that it isnt bc they are the ones who really need to be improving their relationship with God!
  • No.. it prevents pregnancy, if your not pregnant its not an abortion.
  • Sure but so are blow jobs, anal sex, and hell even refusing sex with random strangers if you want to look at it in that light.
  • Give us some background on your thinking, anon. Then come and trail it with a Q for us.
  • If RU486 is a "birth control" pill.
  • No. If doing something that prevents conception is considered abortion, then abstinence is abortion.
  • It's a form of responsibility! People show maturity and responsibility when they use it! People who aren't ready either maturity wise, financially, relationship, etc. make a good move by taking birth control until they are ready!
  • Well maybe who knows
  • No. Avoiding the environment that favors the creation of a life form is not the same as terminating a life form once it's been created. "Abortion is always one generation away from being the best solution."
  • No, what the pill does is trick the body into thinking it's pregnant. When a sperm fertilizes an egg, the woman's estrogen and progesterone levels change to prevent future ovulation.
