  • Haha, they don't :) Cats and other animals of similar intelligence respond to sounds and actions that are familiar. The 'kissing' noises you make are often accompanied by you extending your arm and inviting the cat to come over. It's this action that they are probably familiar with. Similarly, they recognise the pitch of your voice when you call their name. Try saying something else in the same way you say their name. They will still respond, even if you say something ridiculous :)
  • Kissing noises sound very much like some prey that is in trouble, like a wounded bird or rodent.
