  • Learning an instrument can be a life long experience! It all depends on how good you want to get at it and how fast you want to progress. You have to remember that not all people have the same natural music talents. I play the trumpet myself. I started playing in junior high and continued all through highschool. It took me only 2 years to come to an acceptable level of reading music and to develop a good tone. Learning the sax can be a very similar experience. Now if you wanted to be a jazz saxophone concert performer, it could take 5-15+ years! The best way would probably be to get private lessons and whenever you get the chance, join some kind of band or orchestra.
  • I play the clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, and the tenor sax. When I learned the tenor sax, I had already learned to play the clarinet and the bass clarinet. The first time I tried to play the tenor sax was three days before I started learning music on it at band camp. It was really not hard to learn at all, but I guess that also depends on what you already know how to play and exactly how good at it you would like to become.
  • I play the saxophone, you can learn the basics in a year but it takes a lifetime to get good for normal people, unless you have natural talent :) Just try, you should play because it is your passion and becoming good will follow.
  • It took me about a week but that was because I could already play the clarinet. I'd been playing the clarinet a few times a week for about 4 years. It depends how much you practise and whether you can read music =)
  • I could get a sound out by the first few minutes, and could play more than half the notes within the day, but I did practice a lot. I started on flute, so the fingerings didn't trouble me, so good luck if this is your first instrument. How long it takes you to be able to play the sax or any instrument depends on how much you want to play it, how often you practice, and how well you practice. Get the basics, like the chromatic scale, down first. A teacher helps a lot. Have fun!
  • Well I studied the fingering positions for each note that was not hard and took all of about 2hrs to get down. As for being able to play it. I just could not afford the beauty that I wanted to by so I don't quite know yet. I would think after 1 month I should be able to play most basic songs and intermediate maybe a year though for advanced songs from what I know.
  • that all depends on how long you want to practice, and how much you want to improve. practice makes progress... plus, having some natural abilities helps :]
  • You can learn the fingerings in a day, but you can spend the rest of your life learning to be a better saxophonist. The greatest musicians are ALWAYS learning.
