I have got the butt-ugliest green shades of carpet on many of my downstairs floors. In the kitchen there is the really old style of waxed linoleum, and it's shades of grey and has some reddish and blackish and yellowish splashes in it. Upstairs there are linoleum pieces from the early 1950's. (UGLY) We bought the place last year and haven't been able to do much to it yet.

Bedrooms and Lounge Fitted carpets, All the other floors are tile or slate.

Grey limestone tiles in the bathrooms, soft rich cream carpets in the bedrooms and warm brown laminate in the living areas. With my beloved huge fluffy white flokati rug under the dining room table. Here's my puppy modeling for us on the laminate :)

No carpets in kitchens/linving rooms and bathrooms. So i would tile those rooms or go for laminate flooring. As for the bedrooms, either carpets or wood.

Laminate flooring everywhere except the bedrooms. But that is going to change because I HATE carpet. If I could afford hardwood, that would have been my first choice. I have never regretted not putting carpet in the other areas of the house. If anything after wiping up a melted icecream sandwich or cat poo...I'm saying.."thank gawd I've got laminate!"
