  • It is a rant against the establishment and its oppression of the working classes. No matter how educated you get, according to Lennon, you are still a peasant to the establishment. So, IHO, it is not worth trying to emulate the upper classes, but to be a hero to the working class. Like many of John's sentiments, although I am sure he was sincere, his actions were quite different from his words. In no way did he really do anything to help the working classes. He identified with them mentally, but did not live like them. I doubt he was ever a hero to any of the working classes. As soon as your born they make you feel small, By giving you no time instead of it all, Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all, A working class hero is something to be, A working class hero is something to be. They hurt you at home and they hit you at school, They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool, Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules, A working class hero is something to be, A working class hero is something to be. When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, A working class hero is something to be, A working class hero is something to be. Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV, And you think you're so clever and classless and free, But you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see, A working class hero is something to be, A working class hero is something to be. There's room at the top they are telling you still, But first you must learn how to smile as you kill, If you want to be like the folks on the hill, A working class hero is something to be. A working class hero is something to be. If you want to be a hero well just follow me, If you want to be a hero well just follow me. (I loved John, don't get me wrong, but he was a classic "do as I say, not as I do" person)
  • i think it means that ordinary people are heroes too. and that is something to be proud or - rather than aspiring to be rish and famous - be proud of being "working class" by the way - green day have just re-released this song.
  • try youtube if you have a spare minute.
  • Okay you guys are very Oblivious to the message John Lennon is trying to tell everyone. Dont just think of the Chorus When your making an Opinion about this song. I'm gonna break the song Down to What I KNOW it means Through Research i've done. The Chorus: "A working class hero is something to be" John is saying this Sarcastically Meaning: People are proud to work their lives away like Slaves just to make it in life. 1st verse: "As soon as your born they make you feel small,By giving you no time instead of it all, Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all," In My Opinion: He is saying when your young they force you to go to school and learn what the school system wants you to learn. Insead of learning what will benefit you the most. (IE:Critical Thinking, becomming an entrepreneur, musician ETC.) Of course you must have the basics (Math, reading, writing,English) But why not train young people to be successful from the start, instead of wasting 20 years till college?? 2ed Verse: They hurt you at home and they hit you at school, They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool, Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules. In My opinion: He is saying the people who really run this country ( The Federal Reserve the people who create the USD) Dont want you to be clever they dont want you critical thinking and questioning their motives. And they make bogus laws and acts to keep you from questioning them. (IE. Anti-terriorism act) 3rd verse :When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career, When you can't really function you're so full of fear, In my opinion: He is saying, The People Who really control the country (The people who own the Federal Reserve. IE: The Rockefeller Family) Scare you while your young through "terriorist attacks" Assissinations and acts of crime. So your Scared of the world And when your scared you cant Function well. (critically think)And you MUST pick a career and work your life away like a slave just to get by. 4th verse: Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV, And you think you're so clever and classless and free,But you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see, In My Opinion: Now this Verse is a dead give away. They keep you doped with religion meaning: That you believe that god is controlling your life and the world. (Put your Faith in the Lord) This way you don't think you have much control over your life. You should pray to this god for help and help will come, instead of taking matters into your own hands. Sex and TV, this means they keep your mind cluttered with bullshit to keep us occupied so we don't raise our eyebrows about whats really going on. "You think your clever and classless and free" The Rockefeller family Also control the Media (Ie. News)People watch the news everyday and are pretty much controled through television. 5th Verse: There's room at the top they are telling you still, But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,If you want to be like the folks on the hill, In My Opinion: John Lennon is trying to say that The People that Run the Country (THE FOLKS ON THE HILL) are literally KILLING PEOPLE as their SMILING with wars and acts of terror. It's All Caused by THEM to make money And Control America. If you want to be a hero well just follow me, John Lennon was trying to tell people about who really runs our country through his music. Why do you think he was Murdered? It was an arranged assissination because people (Like me) Are starting to wake up and Become aware of what's going on. Who is really controlling the country. Everyone needs to Google Search the Zeitgeist Movie and watch it. It has Very Very Useful Information and will help you understand everything way more. Thanks for reading. Peace & Love G
