I think of Kevin Conroy, who voiced the character for Batman: the Animated Series, Superman: the Animated Series, Static Shock, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, and all related DVD/theatrical releases (about 12 years, altogether).
-
Michael Keaton. But, I really don't think there has been an actor right for Batman yet. Just like there hasn't been an actor right yet for Spiderman. Tobey Mgawhatever is too wimpy and he seems like a closet homosexual or something.
-
Despite some rather good performances by others in that role, I would say Michael Keaton was the best. I would say that had they kept him they would have never had to go hunting constantly for new actors to play Batman. I think that Christian Bale comes in a very close second.

Although I grew up tuning in to the "Same Bat Time... Same Bat Channel," I don't think of Adam West when I hear the word "Batman". As a comic collector since back in the early sixties, when I hear "Batman" I think of the comics I loved. I think of Bob Kane and the others who brought Batman to life in the pages of one of my favourite comics. But most of all I think of Neal Adams, the best artist ever to drawn "The Batman." After the campiness of the "Batman and Robin" TV show crept into the comic books, the series was getting more and more ridiculous. How the character could hope to "strike fear into the hearts of evil-doers" was beyond understanding. It was a case of Batman tracking down and capturing one stupid-looking costumed villain after another every month. The comic was incredibly bad and fans were deserting in droves. In comes Neal Adams... he re-invigorated the series. Gone was the campy "Batman and Robin" and in was "The Batman." This "new" Batman wasn't campy... he was dangerous. At times he seemed obsessed. He didn't just strike fear into evil-doers, he struck fear into the readers. The change was a breath of fresh air that saved the comic. Adams also introduced Ras Al Ghul and his beautiful daughter Talia and changed the Joker from the buffoon caricature that was played by Cesar Romero in the TV show into the deeply psychotic individual we all know and love today. If not for Adams there would have been no "The Batman: Year One" (the basis of the "Batman Begins" movie). He brought back the usage of the phrase "The Dark Knight" to describe The Batman, which is the title of the upcoming movie. We have a lot to thank him for. Neal Adams... that's who I think of when I hear someone say "Batman."

First, is the comic book and soft-back books with comics in them. Second is Adam West (TV's Batman) Third is Michael Keaton ("I'm Batman")

The names your suggested kind of influenced my answer. When I saw "Batman", a generic image came to mind until I saw the names. Then I decided Adam West, though I'm not sure if that would be my answer had the name not been suggested.

as Batman Michael Keaton was great, Val Kilmer and Christian Bale are both excellent Bruce Waynes, but to me Batman is the comic book character first and foremost, the life action movies are just biographies.

I think of Michael Keaton even though I prefer Christian Bale as the Batman. It's just that Bale suits the title of the Dark Knight, so much more. I think it's the fact that he actually looks the part that helps him and the movies were created much more recently giving him the advantage in making a darker toned movie.
-
Christian Bale. I never liked a batman until he played him.
-
I think of Kieth Ledger
-
I actually think of the cartoon! In a weird way I think he was the hottest - he had a really strong voice!
