  • Jabba the Hutt looks suspiciously close to Arabic jabhat al hut = "the forehead of the fish", which is a suitable name for the star Piscis Australis when considered in terms of the old pictorial constellations. Piscis Austrinus or Piscis Australis (both of which are Latin for Southern Fish) was one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy, and is also one of the 88 modern constellations. Its only bright star is Fomalhaut. http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Jabba_Desilijic_Tiure
  • On Tatooine, members of my race are called "Hutts". And my parents chose to name me "Jabba". Thus, I am a Hutt, named Jabba, or, in other words, Jabba the Hutt.
  • Second response. Oh my gosh there’s Oliblish and Enish-go-on-dosh and Kolob. Like Tatooine they’re all on the outer rim! Tatooine's ruled by the "Hutts" and Jabba is the top "dog" of crime. He even keeps slave women. Oh my a nasty piece of work!
  • If you're asking why he was called "the Hutt", it's because that's the name of his species. Hutts tend to be galactic middlemen who become wealthy by surrounding themselves with servants, lackies, and allies. This is partly because they like to use people, and partly because they are largely immobile and not really capable of defending themselves. Find a Hutt crime lord or merchant, and he is sure to have at least a small entourage of servants, slaves, bodyguards, agents, and employees surrounding him. Picking out 'the Hutt' in a criminal organization is usually a good way to locate the leader, or at least one of the upper echelons of leadership. This led to the practice of referring to Hutts by their first name, plus "the Hutt". This practice also became widespread because most Hutts only reveal their first names to non-Hutts; they feel that inferior beings have no business knowing their clan and honorific names. (Jabba Desilijic Tiure was perhaps the most notable exception.) Thus, the only thing one would know to call this being would be Jabba, which isn't really enough information. A person taking on a smuggling contract or other job on behalf of this 'Jabba' would really want to know that he was getting involved with a Hutt, so he could know what to expect. Many beings refer to knowingly deal with Hutts at all on general principle, because they are so ruthless and manipulative. Jabba, being the single most recognizable member of his species, would have been thought of by many as being "the Hutt", the concept template on which others base their expectations of Hutts in general.
  • So that in the future, he could be spoofed as "Pizza the Hut".......... His demise: "...ate himself to death...."
