clean!!!!! get the gas/electric/water turned on, and get correct meter readings to give to your suppliers make a cup of tea

I hang the pictures first. Image is everything.

Set up the cable prior to moving in, trust me you will be miserable if you don't.

Bring a kettle, some teabags and some milk, oh and mugs. You may need sugar too... Now you're all set.

Shout party to all your friends, when they show up you can then explain when the party actually begins. ;)

Have insurance and the utilities turned on...

Change all the locks on all doors that lead to the outside.

I always clean everything: windows, cupboards, drawers, etc. I like having a fresh start.

Get renter's insurance. The landlord does not insure any of your stuff, so if there is a flood, a fire, etc. you will be out of luck. If you sue, it will take time, and he will pay you "garage sale value", which obviously won't replace your stuff. Renter's insurance is cheap and well worth it.
