I was a brand new mom, tutoring college basketball players in English and History. Between feedings and lessons I heard the news and I remember not being surprised that Elvis would die so young.

I was busy looking after a 3 month old baby and didn't even hear about it until the next day, or maybe the day after that. It was a total non-issue for me as I have never liked his music much, except for a couple of tunes in the mid-sixties, like 'In the Ghetto.'

I o remember exactly! I was bartending and making a martini for one of the regular customers and it came on the tv behind the bar and I remember I dropped the drink I was making and a sick feeling came over me at that moment. I was shocked to say the least and I remember it was quite difficult to finish my shift in a good mood! I dont know why it affected me so deeply, it was as if a family member had passed. Same thing when John Lennon was killed.
