  • Building muscle is not a random chance, it is a method of procedure ... do it totally right and you get a 100% chance ... do it totally wrong and you get a 0% chance ... do it only partialy right and you get a partial chance. The age has very little effect, it may slow down the growth rate slightly, but even much older people can still build muscle, as long as they do the right exercises the right way.
  • Apparently good....have you ever seen the bowflex commercials?! (By the way, I have a bowflex, and it's awesome!)
  • This guy from a body building site thinks so: Over 35 muscle? LOL. You can build muscle over 60. I competed in my first contest at age 61. At age 63, I continue to add muscle. I have not peaked. I am only wondering how long I will continue to add muscle. 65, 70, 75? LOL
  • slim to none unless someone is holding out on some secrets they want to share.
  • I will be 60 my next birthday and I started weight traing about 6 months ago and am noticably bigger. When I pull my shirt off now, people comment that I must work out. I have lost 4 inches on my waist and have not lost any weight. I am now working with the grippers and am able to do 5 reps on the 250lbs, plan to work up to the 350lbs for my 60th birthday. I am in better shape than I've ever been. My testosterone levels have raised sinificantly also. It was 350 last year and am at 675 now. So weight traing also effects T levels
  • 100% if you exercise correctly. Age has very little effect on your ability to add muscle, it just might have an effect on your ability to do the exercises required in order to add muscle... If you can do the exercise, you can add the muscle. Simple ; )
  • I would imagine it is a slower process but can be done.
  • adding muscle is a tough proccess at any age due to the fact that everyone expects it to happen overnight. diet contributes to 90% of what your outcome and hard work will produce. short answer, your chances are great but only if your piece it together good......diet and excersice.
  • As a Personal Trainer... You can add muscle anytime... It just talks discipline and dedication. If you go easy go home. Dont just lift to be at the gym but get focused. I would recomend hiring someone for one or two sessions so they can give you some good advice nd some techinques... also buy protein drinks and drink them within 30 minutes of lifting. Good luck
  • Of course you can. With proper techniques, you can tone and build muscle. Just do the normal weightlifting exercises. If you want to tone, then do high rep low weight. If you want to build muscle, then do low rep and high weight.
  • The only drawback about gaining muscle mass is that you can't wear your usual clothes anymore! My shirts have to be XXL or XXXL. My shirts look like they have been pre-shrunk when I put them on. The collars have to be 19" to 21" in order to feel comfortable. I have to get my belts measured or I'll end up having to cut them because they're too long. I have many size 36 trousers that I can no longer wear because of the reduction of fat at the midsection. My biker boots and other boots are too tight and I can't wear into my leather coat, blazer, and jacket, but I'll keep them. My favorites suits are now has-beens and I really hate the stretch marks!
  • It is totally possible. It just depends on your genes, your training and your diet. Age is just a number!
  • I have made very good progress at age 52 and I'm hoping that I can keep this up for another 10 years. My motivation came from the sports section of the local newspaper. There was a physique competition for guys "over 60"! I can't remember who took first place, but the 2nd place winner was 63 years old and quite impressive! The first place winner wasn't photographed for the short newspaper item! I guess the photographer was impressed with this man too!
  • It's not about chance. It's about desire, effort and a good plan. I'm 48 and thanks to kettlebells, more muscular than I was 20 years ago. In fact some bodybuilders compete into their 70's. If you are serious, there are thousands of web pages on this. Good luck muscle-fitness-training.com
