Depression frightens the bejeezus out of some people, they think it's contagious like other moods, that it's too deep, that they maybe expected to make you feel better, that they may say the wrong thing, that they fear they have depression and last thing they want to is acknowledge it, they may draw a blank having not experienced it, there are all sorts of things that go through people's heads, we're a complex bunch! So, basically they didn't respond because they didn't know how to respond or best they didn't.
