A "Sunday punch" usually comes out of nowhere. Unexpected and often for no reason. A "preemptive strike" usually happens after lengthy hostilities that fail to be resolved by negotiations. Like what happened with Iran. 3/4/26

When they know they dont stand a chance in hell of winning the fight if they hit one while they re looking. I would of used the phrase king hit but wasn't sure you'd all know what that was. Previously you told me in USA you call a king hit or coward punch a Sunday punch. To hit someone in the back of the head while they aren't looking. -

Yup, that's a Sunday punch. It doesn't have to be restricted to the back of the head though. There have been recent cases of young men Sunday punching old people walking by on the sidewalks. It is an unseen unexpected punch. Far different than a preemptive strike in a war. -
