Crikey, most of us do that to an extent, we have to elect politicians and they rarely fulfill their promises.We have to trust doctors and surgeons as they are more educated in their areas of expertise, trust judges to carry out the law, (also a failure in many cases). But in everyday situations some people were never encouraged in childhood to trust their own opinions and choices, others were outright beaten for doing so, narcissists tend to rely on others for validation, in fact many people fit to suit or mask their true thoughts to not cause a fuss or blend in. That's why comedians are so funny, they expose a lot of human traits they prefer to hide, deny, or suppress. The title "conspiracy theorist" was invented by the CIA, when people starting questioning the death of JFK. Many people don't want to be thought of as odd, or different, they want to be accepted, and that can lead to following the status quo, even if it is detrimental.
