Well...if by "religion" you mean "religious teachings, religious institutions and religious officials", then the answer is "quite a few". * Perhaps the most notable is the problem of recording information for future generations. As far as I know, in every known case of writing being developed independently (i.e. not borrowing the idea of writing from a society that introduces the idea), writing was developed by the religious caste. That seems to be definitely true of Egyptian and Cuneiform, and very likely true of Mesoamerican writing systems. Chinese writing: I'm not sure if its origins are religious. * And then we have things like schools and universities and hospitals and orphanages * And things like preservation of classic literature by means of monasteries being involved in the industry of copying documents * and so on and on. I could go on for awhile.

Well it proposed an answer to the big questions of why are we here and what we should do. This is good to have when you are travelling around trying to trade with foreigners. It give you something to chat about around the camp fire. It offered dignity to the poor. Where is a poor girl going to celebrate her wedding. Noblemen had their grand houses but poor people would gather outside. A cathedral was open to all people and they had lots of side altars. In later years it also kept written records of baptism, both adult and infants. If a man promised to marry a girl, got her pregnant and disappeared, there was no one to attest to the marriage and he could remarry. In this way the poor had a voice.

When the Catholic Church went to Nigeria, they stopped twins being killed with education, that this was not demonic. Prior to that they were considered an ill omen, my friends husband told me this. First schools were also set up by religious, Augustine established a church in Canterbury in 598, which included a school for religious study, and another school was established at what is now Rochester Cathedral in 604. Churches and religious organizations often established hospitals, orphanages, and other social service programs, providing care and support for those in need.

Thanks for sharing! To answer your question, none that I know of. Do you want to know why? What did Jesus tell Peter in Matthew 26:52 and John 18:11? -

to put away his sword, but Matthew 26:52 adds the phrase "for all who take the sword will perish by the sword". -

You got it. Peter putting away his sword means Jesus stood for peace. By this, you will know who are His disciples. Anyone who kills in the name of Religion is totally unchristlike. By definition: "not in accordance with Christian teachings and values."
