The other side to the coin is nuclear power plants, nuclear energy. You won't see a disappearance of nuclear war heads, originally The idea was that if everyone had them there would be world peace, but of course they wanted to see the effects, so two were released in world war 2.

Oddly: probably not. (1) Without nukes, WWII would have continued on for at least several months, if not years, with probably tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, more Americans dying. The USSR would have captured valuable territory (valuable in resources and people and strategically) of what is now Japanese territory. The Cold War would have likely lasted longer - maybe considerably longer. Japan would likely have been divided - for decades - in much the way that Germany was. Etc. The economies of all nations involved would have probably taken months or years longer to recover from the extended war. Etc. etc. (2) And of course if nukes had never been invented, neither would nuclear power plants have been. France and Slovakia, for example, have more than 60% of their electric power supplied by nuclear power plants. 14 nations have more than 25% of their electrical power supplied by nuclear power plants. Imagine the effects on the environment if all of that electrical power were supplied by coal or oil burning plants instead. * Of course, one can IMAGINE a world where nuclear weapons were invented and then done away with completely by international treaty...but in that scenario you inevitably have some nation that "doesn't play well with others" deciding unilaterally to develop, build and even use nukes (see: Iran, North Korea, etc.) as a weapon of terror to gain leverage over neighboring nations. *** Unfortunately for humanity, it seems that the existence of nuclear weapons are - paradoxically - necessary, necessary in the hands of "responsible" nations to PREVENT their use by other nations.
