If there are so many why does it surprise you? Why don't you expect it by now? I hear gunshots all the time. It happens. People die every day. We will too. Expect that, as well.

There are a lot of big cities in PA - Philly, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Scranton, Erie, etc. A lot of those towns had economic booms linked to manufacturing that were followed by economic slumps when manufacturing slowed. So you get a lot of people crammed into a small space and then give them a lot of income, and then take it all away... That often leads to high crime. And high crime plus easy access to weapons means more weapons used in crimes.
