Well...how would the War in the Pacific have gone without nukes? We can make at least vague guesses. At least tens of thousands - probably hundreds of thousands - more people dying on both sides. Invading each and every one of the Japanese islands with foot soldiers. Think: the invasion of Iwo Jima repeated several times over, with tons of civilians included. The USSR gaining control of Korea, northern Japanese islands and possibly large portions of China. Etc. *** Not a pretty picture, even when compared to thousands and thousands of people dying in two nuclear explosions, with thousands more dying from radiation poisoning in the days following.
