My interpretation of this expression means you're a survivor,. That you survived either a physical or emotionally traumatic experience,

It doesn't pertain to experiences in the physical sense. Surviving a 30-foot fall from a second story window doesn't guarantee you'd survive the next time. And it certainly doesn't apply to COVID. It's talking about the stress of emotional situations. "Kill" in this sense is a metaphor that refers to emotional trauma.
