It can still be used by a doctor's prescription in the UK. According to wikipedia, it was banned in the USA, yet, as a chemist, I can still purchase it here in the USA, although doctors in the developed world never prescribe it anymore, due to some of the risky side effects and the availability of better anesthetics.

I don't think it's used in uk hospital anymore. because ones had a opariton I had sevoflurne not halothane. in 2009
