When should an incoming freshman college student get their textbooks?
Imaginary Bobby wants to wait until he gets his hands on the syllabuses the first two days of classes. Imaginary Pete has gone ahead and ordered his textbooks and has already received one. Anyone can see the required materials via a portal, but Bobby is concerned that it is not accurate.

Contrary to what a lot of schools recommend I suggest not buying any books until you have spoken to the instructor. Sometimes they will tell you that you don't really need the book or that their department pressured them to include a book that the instructor doesn't like or doesn't know. They can change their mind once the class begins. You can wait for the first day of class but the time it takes to get the book is NOT going excuse you form not having material read for the first assignment. Email the instructor before the class begins but be sure to specifically identify the class.
