Transportation Worker Identification Credential. It is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for workers (longshoremen, mariners and workers in related industries) who need access to secure areas of maritime facilities and vessels without an escort. You need to think twice about getting one. Once the company learns that you have a TWIC card YOU become the go to guy. You must have business there. You can't just go into a port facility proper or on board a vessel because you want to even with a TWIC card. You must show it at the gate and security will log you in and record your destination and your business. You get it from TSA. The application fee is about $125.00. The employer generally reimburse you if you. I had a coworker who was selected for inspection but thought he had been waved through. It didn't take two minutes for the Port of Houston Police to arrive in force. https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
