  • Over 2000 years ago the summer and winter solstices were reckoned by following the path of the Sun through the constellations of the zodiac, in the sky. During this time, the Sun was in the constellations Cancer and Capricorn during northern summer and winter solstice, respectively. The two tropics are where the sun is most focused during the solstices. Incidentally, now the Sun’s position is in the constellation Gemini during the summer solstice.
