Dont you think its bizarre that Obiwankanobi wandered around in a blanket in Star Wars? What was the costume designer thinking, is that the way we are going to dress in the future?

Hopefully not,but anyways at the beginning of Star Wars it says"A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away....so we can't dress like that in the future when they dressed like that in the past

I think the point of the costume was possibly to give an example of the simple ways in which the Jedi might live - a bit like our Tibetan Monks - they are 'enlightened' and do not want or require lavish possessions. It's all about character.
