  • The song On My own was written for character Epoine from the Victor Hugo play Les Miserables. The score was written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and consists of 28 epic songs, including On My Own.The original French lyrics written by Alain Boublil, were painstakingly translated and adapted to the English language by Herbert Kretzmer. The song was sung noteably by Lea Salonga [on Live,Vol.2]and Frances Rufelle [has album]. I believe it has also been sung by Sheryn Regis, Craig McLachlan, Anita Dobson and Katie Holmes did a version of it on a Dawson's Creek episode. The original song was from the french solo titled,"L'Air de la Misere". Hope this helps
  • Though it pains me to say it.... Neil Diamond recorded this, and it got airplay...
  • My favorite version is from Jennifer Manasseri off of her album Ballads Over Broadway.
  • Also done brilliantly for the Symphonic recording by Shimada Kaho (who learned the ENTIRE part phonetically as she did not at the time speak English), and there are a few great performances (in Japanese) by Honda Minako.
  • Patti LaBelle. Classic.
