Approximately 36 million people in the United States wear contact lenses to correct visual impairments, according to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Eye Curvature
Unlike prescriptions for regular eyeglasses, contact lens prescription information must include the measurements of the curvature of each eye.
Lens Power
A contact lens prescription will contain the magnifying power of each lens. This power is measured in diopters. A diopter is often noted by a capital "D" in a prescription.
O.D & O.S.
O.D. on a contact lens prescription stands for oculus dextrus. It is referring to the right eye. Oculus sinister, or O.S., applies to the left eye.

The numbers listed next to the word sphere indicate the degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness in each eye.
