  • Flowers each contain male and female parts, which are located in different areas depending upon the plant variety. The male parts, known as stamens, are usually long and skinny with a thicker shaped tip. The stamen consists of two parts, the skinny part called the filament and the tip, called the anther. Fertilization occurs when the pollen transfers from the anther to the pistil or female flower parts and makes its way to the ovule in the base of the pistil.
