    Burning citronella in torches to keep insects away is not bad for the environment. Citronella oil is derived from a grass grown in India, Burma and Indonesia and related to lemon grass. The Environmental Protection Agency has determined that citronella oil poses "minimal or no risks" to humans and wildlife and is not harmful to the environment.
